 What is Morphing?

                                                           Morphing is a special effect in pictures and animations that changes (or morphs) one image or shape into another through a seamless transition. Traditionally such a depiction would be achieved through dissolving techniques on film. Since the early 1990s, this has been replaced by computer software to create more realistic transitions.For example, one would morph one face into another by marking key points on the first face, such as the contour of the nose or location of an eye, and mark where these same points existed on the second face. The computer would then distort the first face to have the shape of the second face at the same time that it faded the two faces. To compute the transformation of image coordinates required for the distortion, the algorithm of Beier and Neely can be used. For better understanding you can take another example of an well popular app "Face App". This app works on the same technology. Well, this is a Russian App which is a photo-morphing app that uses what it calls artificial intelligence and neural face transformations to make creepy, hilarious, weird, and sometimes fascinating alterations to faces.

Morphing technique has become a significant tool of computer-graphics animators by providing an effective means of producing a seamless sequence of forms. It is used to display a smooth transition between two models by inserting a sufficient number of interpolated models between them. But now a days this technology is used in wrong ways, means that it is being used by the cyber criminals who steals the people. 

Morphing means changing smoothly from one image to another image without any corrections using morphing tools available on internet . usually girls are affected due to these type of morphing who download girls pictures from various social websites through fake or real profiles and then morph them .these morphed images may be used to blackmail the girl or her family by threatening to publish the morphed images. according to the study ,there is an increasing rate for these crimes which is committed mostly by organised gangs to earn money. Mostly, youngsters nowadays like to upload their pictures in social media like facebook, instagram, snapchat ,twitter etc without thinking the consequences they would face .this has created more advantage to the cyber criminals by exploiting the pictures of women, morphing and  misusing them to promote online sex chats and pornographic content. As it is a sensitive content ,the victims hesitate to file complaints against the victim  which makes the criminals  to be caught less as the victim do not want it to make public.

    The criminal is let free as the victim  did not lodge any official complaint. But when the criminal is arrested and interrogated ,the accused reveals that he used a free  mobile application to morph those pictures and then send those pictures to the victim and blackmail her. According to a study experts believe that more than 40 percent female users on facebook and Instagram are victims of such crimes in india. With the aim to protect these type of crimes some socialmedia like facebook has brought a feature that  the user will get a notification if any friend or stranger try to download or share or tag or take screen shots or send as a message to any one .
